The Marvel is great for capture and it's great for playback but
unfortunately not at the same time. As Ronald says this is a driver
issue and no doubt it will be resolved in the fullness of time.
Xawtv (streamer) is bad because it tries to capture raw yuv not
hardware encoded mjpeg. This is a separate Marvel driver issue but
it may not be fixed, I don't think the developers regard it a high
priority.

I don't know how Ronald and Berni would feel about this but LVS
would be more useful for the Marvel owner if there was an option
to turn off the capture side of things and to allow hardware playback
instead.

Marcus, your best option currently is to cue up your tape using xawtv
then capture using lavrec from the command line or a shell script (close
xawtv first) then edit using glav. Glav is simple but effective, its
only drawback for me is it can only handle one edit at at time. You have
to save each edit to a new editlist then combine them by hand in a text
editor.
I know the whole process is a bit klunky but you can get very good
results in the end.
