ever since Intel brought out the 710 nic only Intel optical SFPs worked with it, however they didn't enforce this with twinax cables.
Then alternative optical module vendors started selling optical SFPs which mimicked Intel, we use FlexOptix at work, but there are many other vendors who sell Intel compatible optics.
