My expectation is that most Palestinians are exhausted and demoralized by the
war and that there would be a correspondingly high abstention rate in the
unlikely event the Palestinians were allowed to hold a fair election. Patriotic
enthusiasm typically leads the masses to rally behind their leaders when war
breaks out, but to hold them to account if the ensuing carnage does not bring
the promised victory.  In this case, none of the historic objectives of the
Palestinians have been met and are probably further away than ever.  Hamas
boldly attempted a jailbreak in Operation al-Aqsa Flood, but It wouldn't
surprise me if the  growing despair and disillusionment with the largely
unforeseen catastrophic consequences, as reported by DW last August has, if
anything, deepened.
