We receive those mails as well. Many times the mails from Microsoft
contain sensible personal information from the hotmail customer in
question, so I guess, Microsoft will be in GDPR trouble in one way
or another, sooner or later.

It's a UI challenge, yes, but who if not a software company with deep
pockets should be able to tackle it ?
