Hi all,
just picking up on a thread from last autumn regarding one or more
German ISPs moving their customers from standard mail servers to MS 365.
While I assume this is mainly a German problem, I guess it may be
happening in other countries with Microsoft sales representatives busy
greasing palms.
For those interested, these are my experiences:
Anyway, after initial investigations and a test account with
mailbox.org, I did nothing until I had to once I was informed that one
of my accounts was to due to be migrated.
I decided to stick with mailbox.org. The test account was no longer
available but blocked so I had to setup another one. The documentation
is extensive but, as always seems to be the case, seems to be written by
people who know what they're doing, for people who know what they're
doing. The documentation is extensive and, if you read things often
enoug
Fortunately, as other people are going through the same pain, there were
a few helpful posts on the forum. I plunged in and, having set up an
alias for my existing domain (had to wait an hour for this because TTL
is not adjustable) the rest was fairly straightforward.
I ran into a couple of issues:
* you'll repeatedly fail to find the relevant settings page: it's the
mailbox.org one at the top with no additional information and no
expansion. The website is also a good example of why page transitions or
even just "onClick" events essential for feedback. I've lost count of
the times I wasn't sure whether I'd clicked on item.
* payment by bank transfer is a PITA and takes days to go through. Once
it's done, you can switch to direct debit and setup things like a "team"
account, if you have multiple users or multiple domains.
* forget support. Whether it's because they're swamped with new accounts
or just don't have the staff. I guess this is understandable for a small
operation without an outsourced support department, but it's a pity.
As usual, the first time is the hardest!
