Hiya,

I have the same problem and need in the next days or month to change from domainfactory (dF) to mailbox.org

I see that it becomes urgent to switch: https://www.heise.de/forum/heise-online/Kommentare/Host-Europe-stellt-Mailpostfaecher-um-Es-drohen-Mehrkosten/forum-558620/

Yes, these transfers really are at the very least suspicious if not downright malicious.

  - How did you transfered the existing mails over to mailbox.org?

This is quite easy but depending upon the amount e-mail my take some time. Once you have setup an account, you can add a webmail to your existing one and then you can simply move/copy the mail from that account to your mailbox one.

- How did you managed to have the domain still at dF and just point the MX to mailbox?

Yes, this is done using the SPF/Domain verification record that is used to tie the two accounts together.

You have a step by step instruction?

I followed this thread (in German):
https://userforum.mailbox.org/topic/9371-umzug-emails-von-hosteurope

For step-by-step instructions, see Lufer's post. To this I'd add the following notes:

* setup the account and pay asap so that you can use everything as soon as possible. I have no idea why paying by IBAN takes so long, but expect it to take up to a week. Annual payments are possible and once it's setup, you can switch to direct debit.

* the SPF record step will fail until you've added the record to DNS and this has propagated. DF has a TTL (time to live) of 3600 seconds, or an hour. Then you can complete setup your alias, say mich...@nietzold.com and start testing sending. I was able to test against various servers: on-premise exchange, MS365 and GMail. Only MS365 had some problems initially, but that may have been due to something else.

* you can add the MX records straightaway, just give them a lower priority than the existing ones. I gave mine 110, 110, 120, though the numbers are arbitrary. This meant they're active as soon as the df ones are not.

* I set up a Mailmate account for mailbox.org to be able to test sending, etc

* as for moving the e-mail between accounts, I actually "moved" the e-mail from DF to mailbox.org, ie. deleting it from the DF server. In retrospect, it's probably best to copy it, as this will mean less work when synchronising. You might want to take the Mailmate account offline while this is happening so it doesn't download everything.

* delete the DF MX records and add make any other changes you like

* edit the existing account and just change the IMAP/SMTP settings. Expect MailMate to be busy for a while synchronising but all your filters and rules should still just work.

* cancel the e-mail account in the DF setting and change the product to DomainManager

I think that's it. Feel to get in touch if you have further questions.
