Hi Ray. One thing that may help is to go in to iTune's preferences, go to the advanced section, and uncheck the option to add file to the iTunes music folder option. My apologies in advance for the probably misnaming of the option that you'll want. It's pretty close though. When you select this option, it'll stop iTune from essentially duplicating you're files. One area where it is helpful to have this on however, is when you are adding music from an external drive that you'll want to have on you're main machine. HTH.
