Hello Brian, I presume you posted this as I was posting my reply to Joanne about OCR and the Mac.
Not everyone uses, or has used, Windows. I've used only a Mac for 15 years now and I'm quite happy with my scanning solution. It consists of VueScan and ABBYY FineReader and the results I get are very nearly perfect.
