It is not so much a case of not being allowed to use the free ones
(thunderbird/pine/mutt) etc. It is that it is not possible. The
"Groupwise Client" from Novell does not use standard (IMAP) protocols to
talk to the mailbox on the server. It also has it's own calendaring
system which we use internally. I am not telling all this to have the
lists changed, I am just explaining why I can do so very little about
the problem :)

Like I said, it is not "that" important to me, I just said that it
would be useful (for me).

Yes, been there, they are not that keen on breaking their contract with
Novell. I hope that with Novell's buy-in into the Linux world, we might
slowly be migrating to a system that has open standards so that users
can choose the tools they use.

Also thanks to Angus for suggesting gmane (www.gmane.com). I will check
