... and that's as it should be. Windows provides this mechanism to associate a viewer with a file format and we should use it. All this probing for particular applications is a total waste of effort on Windows. If Uwe (or any one else) wants to associate a particular tool with a particular format, they should adjust the registry as appropriate and be done with it. Regards, Angus
