I think I agree too, from a UI point of view. I was a bit unhappy with
the existing note dialog as it confuses two issues - the outliner-stuff
of branches, and out-of-band notes (margin and foot).

Or couldn't we have a branch editor in the Document Settings dialog
where the user can name branches, and set the eventual effect of each
named branch ?
