You are talking to the wrong person for discussing this because I haven't
implemented this feature.
But anyway, I'm a fan of it and use e.g. the color note for paper reviews when exchanging the
documents for revisions. And the greyed-out note is used since a year in the LyX docs for notifications.
My patch is for tex2lyx and doesn't touch anything in LyX.
Ans EmbeddedObjects does not tell me why I should use a framed note
instead of a framed box.
It does: A box can only handle one paragraph, while the note is an environment and can thus handle
several paragraphs.
