Ok now I understand. What is wrong is that foreign language is set up too early:

  \begin{document}
  \selectlanguage{french}
  \selectlanguage{english}
  \chapter{dfdfdf\foreignlanguage{french}{ dfdfdf}}
  \selectlanguage{french}
  \section{dfdf}
  \end{document}

... whereas you'd expect something like :

  \begin{document}
  \selectlanguage{french}
  \chapter{\foreignlanguage{english}{dfdfdf} dfdfdf}
  \section{dfdf}
  \end{document}

Then, this is not related to the translation part, rather on foreign language
handling.
