The problem with that approach is that LyX is not the kind of "editor"
that at least some of us usually use. I would assume that my positve
attitude towards LyX in general would vanish immediately if somebody
forced me to use it for e.g. coding.

Interoperability is not a one-way street. We have to accept that LyX is
to the universe and that most people would like to remain in there
usual environment with a short visit to LyX from time to time ;-)

Code editing in LyX is impossible if you main editor is vi.
I doubt that it is more fun for emacs users.
