It looks like it solved the crash both in qt3 and qt4. Disclaimer: This is
on a different machine with different qt versions, so the crash could
still happen on the other one, but experience tells that this is unlikely.

What I do not understand is why it works on windows this way but did not
with the old approach.
My explanation yesterday did not satisfy you? I've come to understand
that by debug stepping through Qt. I recommend everyone to do this to
understand the LyX and Qt structure.
