If I look at the latest available mandriva version now (2006.0), the qt they provide (in contrib) is 4.0.1 (so probably too old according to Andre). I am not going to do research on all distributions, but this should be done. We have to select some version and stick to it. What distributions has 4.1.x included now? Selecting a version that nobody carries as standard would be a very very bad idea. Abdelrazak> If we are continuing to support qt3, then it doesn't make Abdelrazak> sense to refrain ourself. The qt4 frontend maintainer has to make _some_ effort at _some_ time to ensure that it is not just a funny project to be used by its developers and a few people who love to recompile libraries every other week. There is a reason why we stick to python 2.2; José proposed a balance between the features we need and the availability of this version. There was a reason why we were careful to have lyx 1.3 compatible with qt2 (we could have told the poor windows user: just install a X server and don't hassle us). There is a reason why we catter for gcc 3.1. A frontend is not just a playground for new toys. If you want qt4 to become the standard frontend, you have to do something about it. Chasing the latest fun features of Qt is not the right way to see things in my opinion. >> Sure. My quest to find someone making sure this task is >> straight-forward is still ongoing.
