Dear LyXicians,
currently I do hard testing on the 1.0.0 release of LyX and would like to
give you a short report on my findings you (hopefully) can make use of:
- if you try to insert an index (or an exponential) in math - mode with the
mouse, everything works fine. In contrast, trying to do the same with the
apropriate keyboard commands (i.e. opening the pull-down menu by saying (in
my case) Meta-onething and entering Meta-something for index) results in the
index being entered before the formula I entered rather than at the location
of the Symbol the cursor is currently located at. This is highly
reproduceable (and should not happen).
- if you insert a fraction, you can reach the nominator via mouse, the
denominator only via keyboard. Is that meant to be so? I couldn't change this
behaviour, whatever maginification I activated.
- if one wants to enter \dot{I} meaning the first derivative of I (I am an
engineer, you see ...) you have to really search for a function that can
support \dot{} until you understand that you simply have to type that in. I
mean wouldn't it be much more intuitive to have some add-on in the math-table
that allows you to enter such characters via mouse-click?
- besides, I would take it as very very helpful to (maybe) have all contents of
the math pull-down menu on the tear-off able submenu currently only usable for
a part of the math-functions (like the above mentioned index / exponential).
And those sequences should be reachable by the keyboard (because this is it
what bores me most with programs like M$$word. I must admit that I am forced
to use it business-wise)
Finally: you guys do a really (!!!!!) really good work here. And besides my
suggesstions I mainly have to apologize that I cannot support your work by
any coding, but C++ is something I never had the time to learn.

if you really want to see the pictures above - use some font
with constant spacing like courier! :-)
