Hi Tzafrir,
Tk Open Systems has been building OOo from source for the past year and
three months. We have two very talented two engineers, Alan Yaniger and
Oleg Reebakov working a total of about 300 hours per month, mainly on
build issues for the four platforms we do. This is not a small expense.
The quality of the OOo source bundles changes unpredictably. Some are
perfect, some require days of work to fix the environment. Getting a clean
compile is no guarantee that you environment is Ok, BTW.

What we are proposing is that this expertise, which was paid for partially
from public funds, should be made available to the community in the form
of development environments that are already set up and ready for
developers to work on to solve application issues. This is a sort of
division of labor - we do what we know best - building and debugging the
product, you do what you do best, application development.
