I'd say "less effective than with others" and there is nothing to be sorry about. As I already stated, I tend to understand computers and programs better than people. Sometimes I don't understand code because it has been written by people who make different choices from what I would, without me being able to see a reason for that. That is aggravating to me because I don't like feeling stupid. Other people don't feel stupid when they don't understand code. They work with it nevertheless. My different focus makes people often defensive or causes annoyance. I had already used the Savannah project participation request before your suggestion. As maintainer of AUCTeX, I have a developer account there already, so that was easy to do. I have no idea whether they'll grant it, but I don't think that I would do more damage than good.
