I have been removing all the *.la files from may packages as well. They 
are removed when the package manager bundles up the files to create the 
finished package. When removed from the packages and then installing the 
package through pacman the system nerver sees the *.la files at all.  So 
far I have not had any issues in LFS or BLFS currently in the xorg build 
process.
