I finally got around to upgrading udev to version 054 tonight. This involves a new configuration file which is available at http://downloads.linuxfromscratch.org/udev-config-3.rules. It basically merges the other two files (the rules and permissions files) together. I've tested it on my machine, and there's no difference in the contents of my /dev directory. However, there's little hardware in this machine, so I'd like others to test the new version out and report back to see if anything breaks.

What's wrong with the one I did Matt, udev-config-2.rules. I made that after we agreed upon the changes??
The problem with the one you have proposed is we don't have all those extra groups. dialout, audio, video, floppy, tape.
I will be doing the update to the new groups tonight with my hotplug stuff and I will revert back to udev-config-2.rules file.
