If you were looking for a package, one of the most reasonable would be this: <https://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/ap-bundle-with-stratus-es-esg>. It uses an integrated Appareo 1090-ES transponder with an integral GPS source and a Stratus 3i receiver for $2,745.00. One could buy this transponder without the receiver and use a less expensive Stratux unit as well. ADS-B Out and ADS-B In are often times separate units as one doesn't have to have ADS-B Out to have ADS-B In, and you don't have to have ADS-B In to have ADS-B Out. Additionally, not all ADS-B In receivers play nicely with peoples individual display choices. The discrete units leave more room for customization.
UAT is simply an add on for those that don't need to meet the 1090-ES International ADS-B Standard and a less expensive way to add on if you already have a Mode-C transponder you don't want to replace. If you need to buy a transponder, you're probably better off going the 1090-ES route by buying a Mode-S transponder that supports Extended Squitter (1090-ES). There are a couple of 1090-ES transponders out there that do support ADS-B In and have a wifi unit to talk to your favorite GPS, but sometimes interoperability can be a problem, so check carefully before you buy if you want an all in one unit. -Jeff Scott Arkansas Ozarks > > On 11/17/2021 6:04 PM, Jeff Scott wrote: > > However, if you don't have a transponder, it isn't going to cost you > > anything more to install a 1090ES capable transponder and GPS source than > > it is to buy a Mode C transponder and a UAT ADS-B unit.
