Do you know if there was any design justification or reasons for the KR2's
inability of recovery from a spin?

I've not seen or heard of any evidence that says a KR built to plans, flown with the proper CG location, by a competent pilot is not capable of spin recovery.  I've also not seen or heard of anyone saying it is in fact capable of doing and recovering from a spin.  In spite of it being a 50 year old design that area of the flight envelope is largely unexplored.  It certainly is in my case.  That being said has not kept me from flying and enjoying my KR for 750 hours.  Langford and others have 1000 + hours in theirs.  They won't spin if they don't stall.
