Thanks John. That was such a good deal I bought one as well. I already
have a 400 pound scale, but it's a pain to roll the plane on and off the
ramp to swap the scales under the tires, so having two will simplify
weighing the plane. Also, I was pushing the limit of the 400 pound
scale with 56ML, as it's empty weight started out at a portly 760
pounds, and it's gotten heavier over the years.
One piece of advice I have for folks weighing their planes is to have a
piece of steel, aluminum, or even hardwood, large enough to almost cover
the scale plate, so the load is distributed more evenly across the
scale. These scales may be different, but the scale I have now is
sensitive to loads with a small "foot print", and will give different
readings depending on where the load is placed on the scale. Not a huge
difference, but a difference, caused in part by the weighing surface
flexing a bit. I use a 1/4" inch thick plate of aluminum to spread the
load better, which yields a more consistent reading. My two cents worth....
