Jason,
Yes, a Dragonfly canopy will fit. If I recall, when Mike Mims started that plane, he widened the fuselage a bit. The Dragonfly canopy is long, wide and very flexible, which makes it highly adaptable. So, it will fit. The key will be building the canopy frame, which isn't as daunting of a task as it might seem. I highly recommend the 6" semi-pneumatic tailwheel from Aviation products. <http://www.apitailwheels.com/products/products.html> You will see several tailwheel photos if you look at the KR Gathering pictures Mark Langford posted last week. The 6" Semi-pneumatic tailwheel on my KR has over 1100 hrs use on it now. -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM ----------------------------------------- Cc: "Jason Brooks" <iced...@gmail.com> Subject: Re: KR> Rebuilding my canopy The pictures I put up were from when I bought it, they do not show the damage. Both front pieces are cracked beside the center post from top to bottom. The crack is all the way through the material. I live about 20 miles east of Lake Wales Florida. I'm 3 miles north of the airport 2RR. Being that I use this aircraft to commute to work normally, I'd like to have it back flying soon but since I have never built anything before, I do have a bit of a learning curve. I have emailed Aircraft Windshields about the drawings for the Dragonfly canopy to make sure that it will fit. On the question of the trim tab, since I didn't build this aircraft I can only guess as why it was created that size. There is a tension trim system in the cockpit that is the main trim. Due to the limited range of this system, I have to adjust it depending on what my main loading is, eg Just me heading to work or fully loaded for a long trip. Currently in climb and landing configurations, I'm trimmed all the way nose up and while in cruise, I'm trimmed all the way nose down. Any movement of CG has to be accounted for using the static trim tab. One other question. This aircraft has the 3" tailwheel on it. I'm planning on changing it to the 6" one but I'm having an issue with damage to the tailwheel due to runway grooving at the airport where I work. I think the larger tailwheel will solve a lot of this problem but I wanted to see what you guys thought. I would have like to come to the Gathering this year but since I just moved down here in June and got a new job, I was not able to get off. I hope to be able to attend next year. I really like this little airplane. I had just over two and a half hours tail wheel when I got in it the first time and it didn't take me long to become somewhat comfortable during takeoff and landing. Since then I've flown it from around local quite a bit and made trips from Arkansas to Florida before moving down here. -- Jason Brooks _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/krnet@list.krnet.org/.
