Even if they weighted the same, builder have reported that the fixed gear, when properly fared, are a bit faster due to less drag. The fixed gear would certainly be more reliable and could be built to give a better three point attitude on the ground. I've not had a single problem with my fixed gear in 450+ hours. How many retract drivers can say that. Larry Flesner
