The research from the net is amazing and I want to thank you all again for
the information and inspiration.
I have been looking at all of the wonderful birds out there. I have decided
to continue with the Deihl fixed gear.
I like the look and I can add hydraulic brakes (which I have a set of) to
the airplane. I have had a couple of occasions where the mechanical brakes
that came with my plane have "hung up". This was the final deciding factor.
Current pictures can be seen at cwsquared.yolasite.com
The bottom eight pictures of a new project I happened on to. And is
currently in my hangar next to 930RT.

Again, thank you all for your input.

I think I have removed three sets now. One plane had the wings open at the
ends of the stubs so I was able to remove the spring bar by just unbolting
everything and pulling it out the end in one piece. The other two had
plywood or glass covering the ends of the stubs so I cut the bar in two or
three pieces to remove them out the cockpit. I use the material in my
machine shop to machine lots of good high-strength aluminum parts. Since I
am cutting it into little blocks to make stuff anyway and since there are
holes from the bolts it does not bother me that they are not full length
bars.

I have been searching the net, maybe I missed something.

What is the least invasive way to remove the spring on the retract gear set
up?

I am switching out to the Deihl conventional gear, but don't want to tear
out the entire wing stub.

Is it best to cut the bar out in pieces or remove the bottom of the few ribs
on the stub?

Thank you,

Clay
