Bill: I have both AutoCad & TurboCad and hve a couple of other cheapies(less than $20) and find autocad the best. of all that I have used. I find TurboCad cumbersome but then I had 2 semesters of AutoCad training but found that employers did not want their engineering types using it much so I never really got skilled & efficient in its use. I have heard of "VersaCad" but have never tried to use it. I have used an old version for Apple's called "MacAuto" avoid that one.
TurboCad is probably a good system for the home user for the money but as with all of them you have to use it a lot to maintain proficiency. The biggest factor in any of them is understanding the use of subtle things embedded in the software and using those effectively to set-up drawing prototypes that are versitile in their use of layers, colors, blocks and other features. One that has good 3-D capability would also be useful but "Pro-E" is far better than that so I am told. Micro-Station is also good but very expensive If you can get a "Boot-leg" copy of AutoCad great for they cost upwars of $3k to $4k and Pro-E is even more. Failing that "TurboCad" is good enough but plan on taking a lot of time to learn it as nowhere is it taught that I have ever heard of. If someone ever sends you an "AutCad" dwg you can download the software pkg "VoloView" from "AutoDesk" to view "AutoCad" Drawings.
