I would agree with Mark and Ronald. I have used AutoCAD for about fifteen years and Solid Works for the last two. It really does depend what you want to do. Depending on your cad experience level, I would recommend the least expensive program you can get your hands on. It should be "fairly" easy to learn and it will be a 2D (two dimensional) program and that is all you should need. 3D or parametric modelers (Solid Works or Inventor) are more for show and require a pretty decent machine to run on.
