Check the reg's for the "required" instruments.
I consider my panel as minimum and would still like to get
an artificial horizon. I have:

200mph ASI
sensitive altimeter
electric T&B (go electric if you can)
Vertical speed indicator
exhaust gas temp
cylinder head temp
  fuel gauge for each tank
  tach
oil pressure and temp,
  volt / amp meter
vertical card compass

This is probably pretty standard for most KR's with one or
two exceptions. Many probably don't have any gyro instruments.
If you think you will be spending a considerable amount of
money to build the panel I'd suggest you look at the 10 in 1 all
electronic unit that Dana Overall had at the last Gathering.
I think it is made by Dynon or something similar. Help me
out here Dana or someone.

Plan you panel completely before cutting the first hole. It will make
for a nicer panel and you won't end up with things scattered all
over the place. I have a left side throttle and fly with right hand on
the stick. I placed all my switches and controls on the left side
so I don't have to reach across my body or change hands on the
stick to operate things. A little forethought goes a long way.
