Hello

I had the same problem with my spring steel tail wheel spring. I bought a
couple of those cheap masonary drill bits at the hardware store and they
worked using your methods. I had to drill 2 ea. 1/4" holes. I didn't have a
drill press then so I used a hand drill. It took a while to get through it
and ruined the drill bits.
