Seven or eight years ago or so I approached Dan Diehl about buying the
landing gear and wing skin business from him and we had a tentative
deal. I backed out because the partner I had backed away as the economy
went to hell and his contracting business slowed way down. Part of the
deal was that Jeanette got a small cut from all the parts sold from Dan
and he wanted to keep that up (because that is the good kind of person
Dan Diehl is, not because they had a deal in writing). After Dan spoke
to Jeanette about it and she was agreeable to the same handshake deal I
called her to see if I could also take over the plans distribution and I
wanted to buy some molds she had. I didn't ask for a cut on the plans,
I just wanted to make sure that people could get them in a reasonable
time so that I could sell parts. I told her that she could keep custody
of the serial numbers and even keep taking the payments for the plans
directly. I just wanted to print them and send them out, but she
refused. I then asked about her still printing them and me buying two
or three sets to keep in stock to resell them at no profit and she
refused. Strange bird, but I am certain that she still controls the
plans and all Steve can do is take the order, send it to her, and she
holds the orders until she has a batch to print however long that takes.

Looking back, I am happy that the deal fell through for me and Steve is
probably wishing that I got it. I would have probably been just keeping
the KR alive because I love it and not making money and that is likely
what Steve is doing so go easy on him.

What's the reason for these extraordinary delays? Lots of older
plansbuilt
plane designs (some going back to the 1950s) have let Aircraft Spruce
take
over the printing and shipping of plans. If nvaero isn't able to handle
it, maybe they should consider that. (Or are they getting the plans from
Jeanette Rand?) Whoever it is, this could make people give up before
they
even start.
