I think the point of Mike's post about the loss of Bobby Muse's KR a few years ago was two fold.
1) Like any other plane, the KR is not indestructible and will break up in flight if over stressed. In this case, it was concluded that a portion of the tail broke off due to severe turbulence. It can also be overloaded doing aerobatics or by falling out of a maneuver like doing a split S out of a roll. 2) It is best to treat the purchase of any Experimental Amateur Built Aircraft as if you just finished building it and plan a significant test period to learn the aircraft's systems and handling anomalies under a controlled test environment rather than a self enforced cross country flight with a weather crap shoot in an unfamiliar plane with questionable systems and an unfamiliar airport at every stop. Even with the ubiquitous RV Line of Aircraft, I have yet to see one that doesn't have some sort of builder installed "features" that tend to be pretty non-standard and require some familiarization before heading off cross country. -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM
