Never heard about Denver hitting a bird. I read an article about the crash that said that when John tried to reach behind his shoulder, his left foot pushed on the rudder peddle and flipped him over and down. he was too low to recover. The article went on to say that NTSB set up a simulator with the same configuration as John's aircraft and 10 pilots, who were not told about how the plane crashed, tried to switch tanks while trying to keep control of the aircraft and all ten crashed in the same manner as John.
