--- Comment #27 from David REVOY <i...@davidrevoy.com> ---
@Martin: The awesomeness of the feature (I don't doubt about it) or the Reddit
mini featuring of the Alt key with 85 upvotes are not really valid arguments;
especially when three comments in the same Reddit say they need to change this
shortcut to Meta and the thread is followed only by the Plasma audience
(r/kde...). I'm interested by the users who never adopted Plasma or who left it
after a first try. They probably don't subscribe to this Reddit. By the way, an
interesting feedback on it is from a gamer; saying Alt is required by games.
Maybe the low presence of gamers and artists on GNU/Linux is also a
consequences of default like that?

Imagine if the operating system was designed by artists, and they would replace
all the [ and ] keys by action to change brush-size system wide. "How awesome!
painting on every windows and being able to change brush size!"... Of course,
you could change it in the settings (assuming you are looking to change a
keyboard shortcut in the less logical place for it; Windows Management>Windows
behavior>Windows Actions(tabs). This ensure you need a guide and a
documentation to be able to even know you can customize it). I'm sure such a
default behavior would just ruins the adoption for the developers audience
because devs need this keys to write code and would think this is not well
thought or suited for their use.

This is -of course- a humoristic reversed caricature I use to illustrate this
situation with the Alt key. And again, patching Krita, or doing a specific
tablet+Alt action doesn't solve the issue. It even adds less consistency and
more workaround to the D.E. Alt+Mouse-click getting another behavior than
Alt+Tablet-stylus-tip-click?... Well, I work with both. I don't expect they
work differently and if a D.E. force me to that I would probably consider it
broken and not consistent. Assuming artist use only the tablets is like
imagining gamers control their PC with only joypads ;-P

All in all, maybe the best way to smooth the rough edges of this Alt issue
without changing the default (because I see it will be impossible) is push
efforts on a cleaner and more user-friendly "System Settings" on Plasma. I
would expect to setup something as important as that option on first page of
the "Shortcuts" settings... But when I open it, the first thing proposed is
"Standards Shortcuts" and the possibility to add shortcut for popping the
windows "About Application" and "About KDE" on the top... Not really relevant
xD. You can browse all the content of Shortcuts... It's long. Not finding it
and then you need to search online for specific documentation to find Windows
Management>Windows behavior>Windows Actions(tabs). Maybe a topic for opening
another issue? What do you think about it?
