Setting the background to slideshow shows increasing CPU load up to 100% for plasmashell and 50% for Xorg. Additionally the icons on the desktop are redrawn every few seconds and start flickering. The difference in my case is, that the CPU load does not drop to normal when changing back the background to a static image.
