There hasn't been any changes to the image/slideshow wallpaper "plugin" since
April.

Hmm, is your slideshow image on another drive? Is the partition NTFS or ...?
Does selecting a slideshow on the same drive also have high CPU?
Hmmm, it seems KDirWatch did update 15 days ago, but I don't see how it would
affect things.
