I don't have a problem with calling that "giving up freedom"...it just comes
under the heading of "every action has its consequences, and sometimes we
choose our actions by choosing what are acceptable consequences."

I give up my "freedom" to stick a movie in the dvd player of my work machine
and rock back with a six pack while I'm at work. (yes, it's an extreme
example, by choice)

The consequence is, I'm also giving up a good bit of my "freedom" to become
suddenly and abruptly without gainful employment.<g>
