Yup. That pressure exists, and is quite strong as well.

We're in a society in flux, and /noone/ can do things 'right'. If she 
is a housewife, she's low-status and there will be people thinking she
should 'make something of herself'. If she gets a job, there will be 
people who think she should 'look after her husband' - and she might 
still be low-status.

Of course, males are no better off. :/
