Hi, Brendan,

What I'd like to say to you is rude and is a flame, so I'll tone it down. I
will say this: you are a wonderful symptom of the problem. "Welcome to
America" you say. I say, quite right, and American society is terribly
flawed in this area. It objectifies women, does not treat us with equality,
and often does not believe we can be worthy of respect in a technical field.
Most men fail to see the problem, as you fail to do. When we try to point
it out, they become defensive and insulting, as you have done. Welcome to
America, indeed.
Now, how do we change it? Are we trying to tell people not to make theme
screenshots of what they like? No, we're telling them that what they like,
when displayed publicly, can be rude, insensitive, insulting, and not
constructive to furthering the growth of Linux into an inclusive community.
Linux is, according to Bob Young, 99% male. These themes, and attitudes
like yours, will help keep it that way. Is that what you want?
Last night I got to listen to stories of women in tech support being dissed
by their customers from too many women at the Triangle LinuxChix meeting
last night.
"Yes, I *am* in technical support. No, there isn't somebody more
knowledgeable you can talk to."
Is this what you want to perpetuate?
-Caity
