While it is good to see that you are taking steps
to adopt free
software. Consider these scenarios. 1) You type your project report, resume etc.. on any GNU/Linux wordprocessor and save in the .kword, abiword etc... format. You can only print it on a computer having GNU/Linux machine. you cannot print it on a windows machine. 2) How many places you know have a GNU/Linux machine for printing GNU/Linux documents? 3) How many companies accept resumes in GNU/Linux format? 4) Although you might convert the documents created in GNU/Linux to Word .doc format for printing. Is it really worth installing GNU/Linux office packages to do just that? What is the alternatives? I would recommend PDF or PostScript as it is a format made to be OS independent and used widely for commercial printing. The reality of the situation is that many companies are unwilling to give up M$ word. I have seen several MNC asking that resumes be submitted only in MS word or ASCII text formats. just my 2 cents. :-) siliconichighway |
