Hi,
Here's a very realistic mail from one of our friend 'siliconhighway' in Mangalore Linux users group.

While it is good to see that you are taking steps to adopt free
software. Consider these scenarios.
1) You type your project report, resume etc.. on any GNU/Linux
wordprocessor and save in the .kword, abiword etc... format.
You can only print it on a computer having GNU/Linux machine.  you
cannot print it on a windows machine.
2) How many places you know have a GNU/Linux machine for printing
GNU/Linux documents?
3) How many companies accept resumes in GNU/Linux format?
4) Although you might convert the documents created in GNU/Linux to
Word .doc format for printing. Is it really worth installing GNU/Linux
office packages to do just that?

What is the alternatives?
I would recommend PDF or PostScript as it is a format made to be OS
independent and used widely for commercial printing.

The reality of the situation is that many companies are unwilling to
give up M$ word. I have seen several MNC asking that resumes be
submitted only in MS word or ASCII text formats.

just my 2 cents. :-)
