have you never heard of 'viral licensing'?  the reason is, quite
simply, that linking to lgpl stuff will cause our stuff to be
licensed under lgpl instead of staying licensed under the apache
licence.  and that's something from which we have decided to
protect our users.  if *they* want to modify the code to do
this stuff, fine -- but not our original sources for the above reason.
we're not going to force the 3p commercial vendors who base
their products on our code into any form of [l]gpl compliance.
that's something they need to do themselves, with their eyes open.
