How do we resolve the ideation of "belt tightening" and "austerity" with open ended growth and aspirations to conspicuous consumption?

And Trump's answer is to establish a Sovereign Wealth Fund... something that only makes sense when you have a *surplus*.   His drill-baby-drill converts the commons (fossil-fuel reserves) to cash-flow but that doesn't really balance well with tax-cuts (for the wealthy).

Just watched  Canadian Broadcasting Corp piece on the whole idea...  they didn't say so in so many words, but I think he imagines he is going to achieve something like the Saudi or the Norwegian SWF, neither of which do we have the basis for.  Given how he handled his "non-profit", I think we know what he has in mind for a SWF run by the Trump Royal Family (maybe with Barron as the emergent "Crown Prince" to match MBS?).

I also saw (but didn't click through) a piece (on another outlet feed) that Trump had offered (minority/oppressed) White South Africans "refugee status" in the US and was rejected.   It sounds like more of his culture-war stirring even if it fell flat.

Since then, it’s been a downhill ride, with Biden making new records — just not the good kind.

I’m not American, but if I were, I’d be searching for the receipt to return this mountain of debt before the whole system collapses. Might be time to hit the brakes. Betting on a bankrupt country to stay competitive doesn’t seem like a smart move.

Would be interesting to see a list of various categories of
science funding per capita or per GDP for countries around the
world.  Situate the prospective US in this list.  Will our
society be like that of Kazakhstan?  Or maybe like Uganda?
Probably well below Uruguay or Argentina or Chile.
