Looks like you're short on RAM. How much have you got?
256 Real, 68M swap.
I don't think memory is the issue.

My gut feeling is that it is mouse or IRQ related - though I have
no evidence of that.

Could well be, what does dmesg say about IRQ's , especially the shared ones?
I don't have any knowledge of Micron laptops (never even heard of them) but
can you do anything in the bios to bring about changes?

I'll check dmesg tomorrow.  I've tried some BIOS/Mouse related options with no luck.
You can set the bios to use the internal mouse, external mouse, or both.  None of these
options seems to help.
