Don't think so. I certainly didn't configure shared video memory unless
the stock install did. The videocard has at least 16 M of memory.

Looks like you're short on RAM. How much have you got?256 Real, 68M swap.
I don't think memory is the issue.
My gut feeling is that it is mouse or IRQ related - though I have
no evidence of that.
