I too am a non-programmer-type who loves emacs/org-mode. I second this approach. I don't think it will ever be possible -- nor desirable -- to create a pure out-of-the-box setup as in window's programs -- but this approach would work well for those of us able to tinker and learn a little but not quick enough to build from scratch. A good initial setup(s) and a good manual entry should suffice.
