"I can't speak to Kenwood interfacing, but I can report that my BigIR flawlessly follows my K4 as I tune."
Since I renewed my interest in amateur radio about 12 years ago I have been told several times that my reports of firmware/software/system defects were not valid. I learned than most people who made those claims had made no effort to reproduce the defect that I had reported and had had little understanding of the system being discussed. All I can do is document, with specific test cases, what I observe. You do not have to accept or believe my reports but please don't say the interface is "flawless" unless you have actually run the test cases that I specified and have found them to be invalid. For those on the fringes - SteppIR SDA 100 does not know the difference between an K4 and a Kenwood TS-590S. They are both handled using the same Kenwood interface specification for the IF; word. SteppIR is never going to change this interface because it is coded in the transceiver interface module and that cannot be updated by user firmware update.
