While in the larger scheme of things, considering the price of such applications as Seeburger, TLE, GIS, etc, $800 or $160 is a fraction of a drop in the bucket, it does seem somewhat fishy, as a previous poster mentioned, I don't believe there is ever an "update" to the existing version of X12, rather a new version is issued.
There are members of the various committees who do subscribe to this list and I would join my esteemed colleague Klaus-Dieter in asking for an explanation of this change in policy that provides any actual value for the annual fee. Which, if it applies going forward, will mean 20% per version per year, which will become less trivial as time rolls on. I don't agree with this type of licensing and lucky for me, my products and services are UN/EDIFACT based.
