Hi again Terry,
I've opened a Github issue with Betterbird; just in case they're more
responsive than Thunderbird, though it seems a bit unfair on them.
The Betterbird author suggests it is possible to have your two typed
spaces reach me. Perhaps his response means more to you, as a *bird
user, than me.

Well. I tried following that link and then followed the links given by
the author, and ended up with some pretty torn hair and not much to show
for it.
The problem is that the solution proposed in the two links is extremely
confusing in that it talks about menu items such as 'Options
(Preferences), eg:
'set wrap to zero in Options (Preferences) - Composition - General, and
disable flowed e-mails. In Thunderbird, there is no 'Options' or
'Preferences', although there is 'Settings', but nothing about 'Wrap' in
either Thunderbird Settings or the Settings for this (DLUG) Account.
Having said that, this message is being wrapped, but I cannot find out
where that was enabled (I recall that it didn't wrap earlier).
However, what I did find is that under Account Settings Composition was
still set to 'Compose messages in HTML format', even though I know I
disabled this. The problem is that there is no 'Apply' button in
Thunderbird, you simply back out of the page,so it is difficult to be
sure that the change has 'taken'. It will be interesting to see what
happens with this reply, which I've composed in Thunderbird.
In Betterbird, the lines do not wrap, so I'll send a message using that
too in a few minutes.
