At at former job, I was called as a reference for someone I really
didn't like as an employee (all work-related). I started off by
repeating the company line "I am only able to confirm that he/she worked
here, and what their job duties were".

The person calling picked up right away, and asked if he could still go
through his list of questions. So for anything where the answer was
short of nice, I repeated the company line.

Took me a week to get that phrase out of my head.
